Hi, I'm Amy.
This blog is a result of my personal experiences with tefillah (prayer) and is primarily written for my synagogue family at Congregation B'nai Israel in Tustin, California. My goal is to help others feel more comfortable praying Jewishly or at least share some of the ways that help me.
I am a mom, a ba'alat tefillah (prayer leader), a musician, and a student at Academy for Jewish Religion in Los Angeles. Over the past decade, I have worked to learn how to daven (to pray in the context of Jewish liturgy). I created Prayersong, a contemplative singing practice inspired by my exposure to the chanting of Taizé. I also created HAL'LU, a musical Shabbat morning service that is "traditional like you've never heard before."
In this blog, I will be sharing ideas, melodies, practices, and reflections related to prayer.
